Brooklyn Nine Nine
The spring opener for Brooklyn Nine Nine has us faced with an audit that could close down the precinct. Due to crime being down, the entire police force needs to undergo reduction. Any plot like this one brings back a relic from the past to instill fear. Enter Amy’ ex bf that she broke up with last season (oh boy).
Ensemble shows work at their best when they have a unified goal to overcome. I have to admit, this was a good refresher to remind me how much I missed this show and what made it so great for me to pick up last year. Throughout the episode, the squad has to tackle a handful of violations to ensure they pass. While they are working on the precinct, Jake and Amy hang out with Teddy (boring ex bf) to see if he will grade the precinct fairly. The cracks in the Jake/Amy relationship are starting to show and I am wondering if they will make it to the season finale.
We are introduced to a new enemy due to Teddy recusing himself as the auditor. It is none other then Terry’s (not Teddy) ex with a mission to shut down the 9-9 precinct. Oh boy.
Powerless

I feel this show has truly discovered its formula since I mentioned it as a must see weeks ago. This episode showcased the issues women experience in boardrooms as well as positions set to monetize their bodies for corporate gain using Emily as the medium. In addition to the main story, we have a subplot of embracing who you are to allow the people who you need into your life.
Emily runs into Green Fury and saves her life while shielding her from reporters. Grateful, Fury gives Emily a green badge to call for help at any time. Thus leads up to a commercial to can help Fury’s image as well as Emily’s career in Wayne Securities. The original idea was progressive but got wrapped by the marketing department to be overtly sexually. Emily could have caved in but found another way to make everyone happy. In reality, sometimes women are forced to compromise their morals to progress in their career. I think we need more episodes similar to this one to change our way of thinking in regards to women in the workplace.
Switching over to our subplots, we have Wendy and Teddy we are currently in situations where the real self is being critiqued. Teddy is willing to do whatever it takes to get Green Fury’s attention. I feel like he is trying so hard to make it happen it backfires to no happening. Wendy is able to befriend the assistant’s daughter which creates conflict due to the nature of the relationship. Eventually, both characters come to a full circle moment which “frees” them to accept their true self. Solid episode.
Shots Fired
I have to admit how important this series is to understanding all sides to the police brutality in the communities. I discussed it before and recently caught up earlier today. The four episodes I have watched from this limited series has me in thought based on the various perspectives displayed. You can empathize with each side and this creates the dialogue to help us get to a solution.
Do we need to implement new procedures to avoid rash decisions?
Yes, of course.
More events to bring the community and police together?
Yes.

Rosewood
Whenever a show starts off with no immediate discussion of what appears to be a near death experience for a main character, they probably lived. Now that we get that out of the way, this episode felt like a filler episode. Besides the reveal our police chief survives the kidney transplant, I could have done without watching this episode. I hope the writing improves as we close out this season. Sadly, I received I had to work hard to write this small ass paragraph. The episode was full of that much “mehness”.
Shades of Blue
The chips are in place and the plot finally progresses. All the secrets are coming out and the dynamic of the team is close to implosion. It feels like a critical moment that needs to be noted. Everything will be different going forward and our cast will no longer be in cruise control. Also, the cast has been given actual lines instead of leaning on Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta to carry this show into this current season. This brings a new energy to what the franchise can be in my opinion. I need to wait and see before I look silly with my prediction.
